What's In My Purse + Review | Kanken Sling

In late February of this year I visited my best friend in Minneapolis and out of the four days I was there my biggest purchase was this beautiful yellow number! I've been a fan of Fjallraven for a while and actually own the normal sized and mini backpack of the Kanken line. When I went on my trip I  didn't take a carry on with me and opted to travel with just my backpack since it was only a weekend getaway. On my trip I pretty much relied on my pockets to carry the bare minimum consisting of my phone and wallet but it was starting to get annoying. While walking around, my friend and I stopped by a Fjallraven store because I usually buy my Fjallraven products online so I wanted to see the other colors in person and because I wanted to take a photo of the iconic Kanken wall display they usually have. I definitely did not intend to come out with a bag; I remember when Fjallraven launched the Sling line and it didn't look very cute online when I first saw it but to my surprise I absolutely fell in love when I tried it on and looked in the mirror.

Review

Before we hop onto what's inside my bag, I want to do a quick review. The Kanken Sling is a miniature side bag version of their classic Kanken bag. It is water-resistant, however, it is NOT waterproof and come in a variety of colors to choose from. There's less color options for the Sling versus their backpacks but the Sling is a relatively new addition and they're still in the process of expanding the color range for it. The particular one I have is in the color Ochre.

It seems small but don't let that fool you. The strap is adjustable and can easily be done. It has two handles at the top for easy holding and has a little clip to keep the two handles attached. I especially like this feature because it's just an extra preventative feature should anyone attempt to do a quick grab into your purse.

My favorite thing about this bag is that it has this zip pocket in the back where I like to keep my phone. The back pocket is something I always look for because I dislike having to open my whole bag when I just want to grab or put away my phone. I also sometimes like to slip in my receipts in there just to keep it separate from the rest of the bag.

I adore the size of this bag as well. It's not too big or too little for someone like me that just needs a wallet and phone but also big enough that when I want to bring bigger items I have the room to do so. Options are fun!

The biggest con for this bag is that color transfer from other pieces of clothing happens very easily. If you tend to wear darker color clothing then I would be mindful of that before committing to a color. I honestly feel like the black that rubbed off from my jeans to the back of my bag gives it character, but that doesn't mean I was a little anxious because it happened within an hour of me buying it. Color transfer is also bound to happen on any purse you have that sits at your waist and rubs on your shirt or jeans while you walk. If you care about color transferring then I would suggest picking a darker color. My other Kanken's are in pretty basic colors like Fog (grey) for my normal sized Kanken and my Mini is in the color Graphite which is a very dark grey so this was a great way to be fun and colorful. There is a way to clean color transfer off your Kanken's which is just using a damp magic eraser and rubbing that on the stained or dirty areas, however, it will not 100% clean it so it is something to think about when you're looking into purchasing one.

The Kanken Sling isn't the most affordable option retailing at $65USD. I used my previous purse, a Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bag, for 5 years so it felt like it would be a rather good investment for myself to purchase a new bag. It's not the cheapest option but it's also not the most expensive. The Kanken Sling is a happy medium of affordable enough but doesn't sacrifice quality and aesthetics.

Another aspect that I love about the Sling is that it's a "not so serious bag." My everyday outfit consists of a t-shirt, leggings and a pair of vans so I wanted a more casual purse but still be cute. I felt that  my previous purse was too fancy for a target run in leggings or walking around the beach that I felt always a bit underdressed when I used so the Kanken Sling's more laid back casual vibe was the best for me.

What's Inside My Kanken Sling

A Hanheld Fan

I got this rechargeable handheld fan when I went to the Philippines last November. It was so hot that this was need and I brought it home because I live in Florida and our summers are hotter than the devil's balls. I like that it can fold up to fit inside my purse. I'm sure you can find something similar to it on amazon.

Perfume Stick

I'm always self conscious of body odor because it gets pretty hot in Florida so I keep this The Saem x Seventeen (Dino) perfume stick in my bag for stinky situations. I like that it's solid so there's no fear of it accidentally leaking and potentially ruining my purse and it doesn't take up a lot of space.

Power Bank and Lightning Cable

My power bank and lightning cable live in my purse because you never know when you're phone will run out of juice and it's nice to have when my friends or family need a quick charge. My power bank was a gift from my aunt in the Philippines and has a 20,000 Mah capacity. It's massive and can charge my iPhone 11 up to four and a half times.

First-Aid Kit

This is actually a new addition to my everyday carry; I found this little tin when I was strolling through target. Inside there's bandaids and a little tube of an antibacterial/pain relief ointment. I figured it would be nice to have in my purse especially since I've had a friend trip and skin her knee and we didn't have anything to stop the bleeding or disinfect it. This little kit was from Target by the brand Welly and retails for $6.99 something to note is that the little tin is meant to be refillable and Welly does sell replenishment packs should you run out. The best part about this is the tin matches my bag!

Hand Cream

Next thing in my bag is my The Saem x Seventeen (S.Coups) Hand Cream. I suffer from the occasional dry hands after washing my hands and ashy knees and elbows so I like to keep this in my bag for those times. It smells wonderful and doesn't have this super oily residue that other hand creams that I've tried have.

Wallet and Lanyard

My wallet is a card wallet from Coach and the lanyard is from Seventeen's Ode to You in Seoul Concert merch. I don't have a lot of cards and seldom use cash so a small wallet is what I use. I have it on a lanyard so if I want to forgo using a purse like when I go to just grab milk from Walmart I just pop the lanyard on my neck and im good to go. I also like to attach my AirPods case on my lanyard along with my wallet for those times I don't want to bring my purse.

Tile GPS Tracker

Target had an insane good clearance sale on the older Tile's a couple months ago and I bought two; one for my wallet and one for the main bag I use at any moment (I like to switch it up) I originally bought it for my trip to NYC in January because I was going to a concert and thought I might misplace my bag in the chaos, I didn't! but it's nice to have that insurance. I have the Tile app on my phone to locate the items I've attached my Tile's to so I can find them easier. My fav part about this little gadget is that it can locate your phone when you tap it twice and it's saved me a lot of time since I lose my phone around the house often.

Tiny Mirror

I got this tiny baby mirror for my purse for after meals to check my teeth or to touch up my eyebrows. I got it second-hand on a Seventeen Buy and Sell group on Facebook a year ago. It perfectly fits in the tiny front pocket of the Kanken sling and has a super cute picture of Jeonghan on it.

**if you guys are wondering where the decorations are from, the carat Disney ear pin is from etsy, Hoshi pin was bought secondhand so I don't know, Eric Nam pin from his tour and the Fjallraven keychain is from Fjallraven.

Notes:

** 32oz Hydroflask is in the color Sunflower
** I have taken a photo with my other size Kanken's so you can get a better feel for the size difference
** there are filter's on all the photo's I have taken
** the kanken wall was taken in a stand alone Fjallraven store in Minneapolis while I was there
